RINCÓN DE LA VIEJA PARK

This National Park was created to protect the biodiversity aroundRincon de la Vieja Volcano.
It extends over 14083 hectares of forest and includes a barren rocky terrain between 1950 to 5748 feet above sea level on the slopes of the Caribbean and the Pacific, Guanacaste Volcanic Cordillera.Fumaroles, hot mud pools and steam holes mysterious "The Pots" create a stunning landscape.
The trip provides us the opportunity to appreciate the wonders geothermal Rincon de la Vieja, also allows a close look at a forest with many years old.

We arrived at the park after 45 minutes from Liberia, of course we came well prepared for walking, comfortable shoes, hat, binoculars, camera, sunscreen, insect repellent (very important), water and rainwear just in case.

Walk about 2 hours. During this walk we saw huge trees, waterfalls, monkeys, toucans and all kind of creatures great and small.

There is much to walk, near the top of the volcano is the lagoon “Jilgueros”, its cold, clear waters are the result of rainfall and is characterized by the abundance of Goldfinches and Dantas (Tapir). We would recommend a knowledgeable guide to visit the area, about 4 hours one way walking, not all do. This park is closed on Monday if you dare to go.
